How to Get Your UAE Business Recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Answers

To get your UAE business recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI answers, you need to be easy for these tools to find, easy to understand and backed up by other sources they trust. In practice that means a crawlable website that answers real buyer questions, consistent business details everywhere, genuine reviews, and listings on reputable directories, because AI answer engines build their recommendations from exactly that kind of information.
What are AEO and GEO, in plain terms?
For years, SEO meant one thing: rank on page one of Google so people click through to your site. That still matters. But a growing share of buyers now type a full question into ChatGPT, Gemini or Google and read a written answer before they click anything.
Two newer terms describe the work of showing up inside those answers:
- AEO (answer engine optimisation) is writing and structuring your content so a search engine or assistant can lift a clear, direct answer from it. Think of a short, accurate paragraph that answers “how much does a commercial fit-out cost in Sharjah?” right under a heading that asks that question.
- GEO (generative engine optimisation) is the broader job of making sure AI models understand who you are, what you do and where you operate, so they are likely to mention or cite you when they generate an answer. It leans heavily on what other websites say about you, not just what you say about yourself.
Neither replaces SEO. Google states in its guide to AI features and your website that standard SEO best practices still apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode, and that there are no extra technical requirements beyond being indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. So AEO and GEO sit on top of good SEO rather than beside it.
Classic SEO vs AEO vs GEO: what is actually different?
| Classic SEO | AEO | GEO | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goal | Rank a page in the list of results | Have your content used as the direct answer | Be named or cited in an AI-written response |
| Where it shows | Google and Bing results pages | Featured snippets, AI Overviews, voice answers | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode |
| Main levers | Keywords, technical health, links, page speed | Question-led headings, concise answers, FAQs | Brand mentions, reviews, directories, consistent business data, schema |
| Success looks like | Clicks and rankings | Your wording appears in the answer box | Your business appears when buyers ask for a recommendation |
| How you measure | Search Console, rank tracking | Search Console, manual checks | Asking the engines directly, AI referral traffic |
The overlap is large. A well-built service page with clear answers and solid technical foundations serves all three at once.
How do ChatGPT and Google’s AI decide which businesses to recommend?
None of these companies publishes a full formula, so be wary of anyone who claims to know one. What we can say from their own documentation and from watching how answers behave:
- They search the web. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode may run several related searches across subtopics (it calls this “query fan-out”) and link to supporting pages. ChatGPT search uses its own crawler, OAI-SearchBot, to find and surface websites, according to OpenAI’s crawler documentation.
- They lean on third-party lists. When someone asks for “the best MEP contractors in Dubai”, the answer often draws on directories, review platforms, industry associations and “top 10” articles. If you are absent from all of them, you are hard to recommend.
- They weigh reviews and reputation. Consistent, recent, genuine reviews on Google and relevant platforms give an AI something concrete to say about you.
- They need clear, consistent facts. If your company name, address, phone number and services differ between your website, Google Business Profile and directories, the model has less confidence about who you are.
- They read your pages. Clear text about what you do, for whom and where is far easier to use than a homepage that is mostly sliders and slogans.

How to get recommended by ChatGPT and Gemini: practical steps for UAE businesses
1. Answer the questions your buyers actually ask
Write down the questions you hear on sales calls and WhatsApp. “Do you supply to Saudi as well?” “What is the lead time on custom joinery?” “Do you handle Dubai Municipality approvals?” Each one is a prompt someone is also typing into ChatGPT.
Answer them on your site in plain language. Put the question as a heading, give the direct answer in the first sentence or two, then add the detail. That is the core of AEO, and it also happens to convert better for human readers.
2. Build clear service pages per service and per emirate
One “Services” page listing ten things is weak for both search engines and AI tools. A trading company or contractor serving several emirates is better served by a dedicated page for each core service, and location pages where you genuinely operate, for example Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman. Each page should say who it is for, what is included, the area covered and how to get in touch.
Only create location pages for places you really serve. Thin pages with the city name swapped out help nobody and can hurt your site. If your current site cannot support this structure easily, it may be time to look at a properly structured business website.
3. Add Organization and LocalBusiness schema
Structured data (schema.org markup) is a machine-readable summary of your business: name, logo, address, phone, opening hours, service area and social profiles. Organization and LocalBusiness markup are the main ones for most UAE SMEs. FAQ markup on pages with genuine FAQs can help describe that content too, although Google now shows FAQ rich results for only a narrow set of sites, so do not expect visual changes in search results from it.
Be realistic here. Google says there is no special schema needed for AI features, and the markup must match what is visible on the page. Schema helps machines read your facts accurately; it does not make a weak business look strong.
4. Keep your name, address and phone identical everywhere
Pick one exact format for your business name, address and phone number and use it on your website, Google Business Profile, directories, social profiles and invoices. “N Tower, Al Nahda” in one place and a different building name elsewhere creates doubt.
Your Google Business Profile is especially important, because it feeds Google Maps and Google’s own answers directly. If yours is incomplete or outdated, start with Google Business Profile optimisation before anything else.
5. Get listed on reputable directories and industry sites
Look for the places a buyer in your sector would check: chamber of commerce member listings, trade and industry associations, established business directories, B2B marketplaces relevant to your trade, and supplier lists from brands you are authorised to distribute. Quality matters more than volume. A handful of credible listings with complete, consistent details beats hundreds of spammy ones.
Being mentioned in genuine articles, local news or industry roundups also helps, because those are exactly the sources AI answers tend to cite.
6. Collect genuine reviews, steadily
Ask happy clients for a Google review after each completed job or delivery, and make it easy with a direct link. Reply to every review, including the critical ones. Never buy reviews or post fake ones: it breaks Google’s policies, and it gives AI tools misleading information that can backfire.
7. Let the AI crawlers in through robots.txt
This step is often overlooked. Some security plugins, firewalls and hosting setups block unfamiliar bots by default, and that can include the crawlers AI search tools rely on.
- Googlebot controls whether you appear in Google Search, including AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google-Extended is a separate control for AI training and grounding in some other Google systems, and it does not affect Search.
- OAI-SearchBot is what ChatGPT search uses to surface websites. OpenAI says that if you block it, your pages will not appear in ChatGPT search answers.
- GPTBot is OpenAI’s training crawler. You can block it for training and still allow OAI-SearchBot, because the two settings are independent.
Check your robots.txt file (yourdomain.ae/robots.txt) and your firewall rules. OpenAI notes that robots.txt changes can take around 24 hours to take effect in its systems.

How do you measure whether AI tools are recommending you?
There is no single dashboard for this yet, so use a few simple methods together:
- Ask the engines yourself. Make a list of 10 to 20 questions a buyer would ask, such as “who supplies industrial valves in Sharjah?” Run them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google every month, note whether you are named and which sources are cited. Answers vary between sessions, so look at the trend rather than one result.
- Track AI referral traffic. According to OpenAI’s publishers FAQ, ChatGPT adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to links it sends people through, so it shows up clearly in Google Analytics. Also watch for referrals from Perplexity and Gemini.
- Use Search Console. Google includes clicks and impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode in the Performance report under the Web search type. They are not broken out separately, but growth in question-style queries is a useful signal.
- Ask new leads. Add “How did you hear about us?” to your enquiry form and WhatsApp replies. More buyers now answer “ChatGPT suggested you”.
Can anyone guarantee your business will be named?
No. Be honest with yourself about this, and be cautious of any offer that promises a spot in ChatGPT’s answers. AI responses shift with wording, location, the user’s history and model updates. What you can control is the quality and consistency of the signals: your site, your listings, your reviews and your reputation. Strengthen those, measure regularly, and your chances improve over time.
The upside is that this work is not wasted even if AI search changes again. Clear service pages, accurate business details and real reviews help your classic Google rankings, your Maps presence and your conversion rate too. That is why we treat AEO and GEO as part of our SEO service in Dubai rather than a separate product.

Frequently asked questions
Can an agency guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my business?
No. AI answers change from one conversation to the next, and no outside party controls which businesses an AI model names. What a good agency can do is strengthen the signals these tools draw on, such as your website content, listings, reviews and structured data, and then measure how often you appear.
What is the difference between AEO and GEO?
AEO (answer engine optimisation) is about structuring content so it can be lifted as a direct answer to a question. GEO (generative engine optimisation) is broader: making sure AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews understand who you are and are likely to mention or cite you when they put an answer together.
Do I need special schema or an llms.txt file to appear in Google’s AI Overviews?
Google’s own documentation says there are no extra requirements or special schema needed for AI Overviews or AI Mode. Your page needs to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. Organization and LocalBusiness markup is still worth adding because it describes your business clearly, as long as it matches what is visible on the page.
How do I know if ChatGPT is sending visitors to my website?
OpenAI says ChatGPT adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to links it sends people through, so you can see that traffic in Google Analytics. For Google’s AI features, clicks are included in the Web search data in Search Console’s Performance report.
How long does it take to start appearing in AI answers?
There is no fixed timeline. Fixing crawler access, business details and basic service pages can be done in weeks, but earning mentions for competitive questions like ‘best contractor in Dubai’ depends on the same authority signals as classic SEO, which build over months.
